SoilDrops Single Outlet Hose Timer — Programmable Sprinkler Timer with LCD & Rain Delay

The first one I received was defective, one of the valves was stuck in the “on” position. The replacement works fine. After installing 2 batteries (not included) the screen lights up to show a crisp display. Programming is straightforward, a hose gasket as well as a screened gasket (not an actual “self-cleaning valve”) can be found in the box with the instructions for setup and operation. I like the timer as it is intuitive to program as well as run zones manually. No leaks and the replacement is working well. I will update this review if there is an issue.

This requires two AAA batteries to work. They aren't included, and the one I received would not work when I put rechargeable AAAs in.It's easy to program and use. You specify the time watering will start, how long it will go for, and how long between waterings. The delay can be from 1-23 hours or from 1-15 days. It will control two different watering schedules on two different hoses independently. You can also turn if Off and perform manual watering.I found a couple of things to be careful of: 1) whenever you remove or replace the batteries you'll need to reprogram it from scratch, and 2) if the batteries go dead it appears the unit just shuts off so you'd need to either install new ones or remove the timer from the system before you can water again.

In the summer our water bills can get pretty high. We have gardens that need water and grandchildren that like to play in sprinklers. We also have been know to forget the water is on and leave it running over night. This digital timer is going to help. Setup is easy after you install the batteries (2 AAA that you need to supply). You set the current time and then you can add your schedule, if you have one. Once the planting season starts I may have more use for the watering schedule but right now I use it in Manual mode. In Manual mode you can set a timer for how long you want the water to run. This is great for kids sprinklers. The display is clear and the instructions answered all of my questions. The first couple of times you use it you have to think about what you're doing then after that it becomes natural. When I first set it up I installed it directly to the outside water faucet in the back of the house. The only problem with that is the faucet is about 18 inches off the ground and I soon got tired of bending over to set and see the display. I have a 6 ft hose that I attach to the faucet and normally connect the other end of it to a hose reel that has a hundred feet of hose on it. I found I could easily attach the timer between the 6 foot hose and the reel and this allowed me to lift the hose and timer up to where I could easily see and work the controls. Something you may want to think about when you go to purchase the timer is where it's going to be located and is it easy to access. The timer seems to be constructed well. The battery compartment has a seal on it and is water tight. I wouldn't leave this out over winter, I'm pretty sure freezing weather would ruin it.

We really appreciate hose/sprinkler timers, being as we are forgetful and have to pay for city water. I jumped at the chance for one with dual outlets. This one seems solidly made and heavy, with good instructions that are intuitive to follow. You can program two zones or only program one and keep the other side for on demand watering; very convenient. With up to 15 day programmability, you can even go on vacation and keep things well watered. The clean out valve is so helpful as are the 2 gaskets that are included. You will need 2 triple A batteries to run it but, don't worry, the case is rated an IPX5 which means that it is protected against low-pressure water sprayed from any direction. The battery cover fits tight with a good rubber gasket.This dual outlet/zone hose timer has great functionality and is priced well, I recommend it.

I have a few timers like this, and they are a life changer. You can set this to turn on every few hours and keep flowers/veggies well cooled and watered on those days where one morning watering isn't going to cut it. The amount of time I've saved standing there with a hose in my hand is well into the hours now, too. It's such a convenience. Just connect it to the outdoor spigot, set the frequency and length of watering times, and forget it. It functions great and is very intuitive and when setting times. I suggest using it with a flexible hose drip or spray system. You can even bury the hose and have miraculously wet soil without lifting a finger. One thing to watch out for, however... As with my other outdoor timers, I am terrified of one of the hose connections breaking. That appears to be a weak point in the design, and I had to return one once because the connection had broken. I'll use it with care, but it's something to watch out for. Try to immobilize it as much as possible once it's screwed on, and it'll last you year after year. Looking forward to my green yard this year!
