What is the Soildrops Controller?

A controller-only replacement for your existing irrigation timer. It uses app control, schedules, weather data, and optional SoilDrops soil moisture sensors to water your landscape. For real soil readings from day one, choose the Starter Kit with sensors included.

Is Soildrops compatible with my current irrigation system?

Yes, for the vast majority of installed systems. If your existing controller uses standard 24V AC solenoid valves (which most residential systems do), Soildrops works as a direct replacement. You'll move the existing valve wires onto the numbered terminal block, with the common wire on the "C" terminal.

How much water can I save?

How does AI scheduling work?

With sensors paired, SoilDrops can use real-time soil moisture, weather forecasts, plant profiles, and soil type to water only when each zone actually needs it. Without sensors, Smart mode still uses weather and plant data, but it is estimating instead of reading the ground directly.

Can I manually control the system?

Yes. Use Quick Run for on-demand watering of any zone, or switch a zone to Manual mode to set fixed days, times, and durations. The controller is reachable from any device via the app and a web URL.

Because deep, infrequent watering produces healthier plants. Multiple short daily starts keep water in the top inch of soil and encourage shallow roots, weaker drought tolerance, and more turf disease. What are the Wi-Fi requirements?

A standard 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (not 5 GHz). Bandwidth requirements are very low — any stable signal works. If your Wi-Fi is weak near the controller, a Wi-Fi extender solves it.

How long does installation take?

About 10–15 minutes. Attach the antenna, choose a sheltered mounting location, mount with the included screws, connect your existing valve wires to the numbered terminals, plug in the power adapter, hold the reset button until the LEDs flash, and scan the QR code in the app.

Do I need soil moisture sensors to use it?

No. The controller works in Smart mode without sensors. But without sensors, it estimates from weather and plant data. To water from measured soil moisture out of the box, choose the Starter Kit.

Does the controller require a subscription?

No — manual control, zone schedules, basic weather-based scheduling, and CultivAI plant care are free for life. Premium hands-off automation features are optional add-ons managed in the App Store or Google Play.
